The Bible Miniature Art Exhibition
This exhibition was held from Thursday, 21 October to 5 November 2004 at ACU National Gallery@Strathfield.
From Israel to ACU National Gallery at Strathfield
There's an air of reverence and spirituality at the ACU National Gallery at Strathfield campus as it welcomes an international art exhibition devoted to miniature art. The theme for the exhibition is The Bible, and thirty-one artists from across Israel have produced one hundred and fifty artworks that explore the issue of religion and The Good Book.
Entitled The Bible Miniature Art Exhibition, the show was first collated by the Israeli Miniature Art Society. The Society was founded in 1997 and over the three years they have developed experience in organising shows. co-ordinating three previous international exhibitions with varying themese. The Bible Miniature Art Exhibition is their fourth exhibtion under the guidance of the Embassy of Israel, the tour began in New Zealnd before reaching Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

One of the miniature artwork, Harry Araten's watercolor piece
There is something very special about miniature painting. Because the size of each work is smaller than usual, its messages appear concentrated. It is an intensity that appears to lend itself so well to the sacred and mystical themes at the heart of this exhibition. One only has to look at the artworks exhibited by these Israeli artists to see this. For example, there's Victor Franco's moody quartet of works based upon and called Genesis; there's Dick Ben Dor's parable-like triad of works: Lot's Wife, The Golden Calf and The Garden of Eden; there's a diversity of othe work, including Lea Aharonson's Joshua 10:12, Harry Araten's Jonah series, Moshe Liba's Moses and Aharon leading the tribes, Sara Shapira's Adam and Eve and Rachel Ouziel's The Ark of Noah.
This exhibition was brought to ACU National in association with The Israeli Embassy, Canberra. Its Charge d'affairs Mrs Orna Sagiv opened the exhibition at the gallery.
